Episode description: Oliver tracks down another millionaire from his list, but before he can get the answers he wants the man is killed by an assassin known as Deadshot. Initially, the police suspect that the vigilante, whom they refer to as "The Hood", is responsible for the murder, but the evidence begins to prove that he did not kill anyone. Oliver decides to build a new dance club above his hideout to explain where he goes at night. While comparing the competition, Oliver finds Thea, who reveals that Laurel and Tommy had been sleeping together during Oliver's abscence. Laurel becomes suspicious when Oliver does not react to the news. Meanwhile, Oliver uses the assassin's M.O. to learn his true identity, and enlists the help of Detective Lance to stop Deadshot from assassinating more of the wealthy. Oliver manages to stop Deadshot, killing him in the process, but his bodyguard Diggle is shot during the assassination attempt. Oliver is forced to reveal his true identity to Diggle in order to save Diggle's life. In another flashback, it is revealed that the archer who attacked Oliver was actually trying to help him. Oliver misunderstands and escapes, but is pursued by an unknown group of armed men.

Reviewer's note: I am liking the hook of the show; a son who is trying to right the wrongs of his father using unconventional means because the conventional won't work. The "Island" flashbacks, little by little gives us important information on our lead.

Reviewer's note: The cast are really starting to get the handle of the character they are playing. I think they are benefitting from a solid concept for the show (unlike Smallville with the fantastic setting) grouding this show to gritty street level crimes was a smart move. Though at times it still comes off as Dark Knight - lite but that's not a bad, right?

Reviewer's note: Again I have to commend the makers of this show, the character 's all look great. The lead's costume has right enough mix to remind us that he is our favorite "Emerald Archer".

Reviewer's note: I think the show gives enough easter eggs to entertain us comicbook fans. Introducing early on characters that are based on the comics is a nice touch, even though they are altered in some ways.

Merlyn was created by Mike Friedrich, Neal Adams & Dick Dillin. First appearance was in Justice League of America #94 (November, 1971)Live Adaptation: Tommy Merlyn is a billionaire playboy "trustafarian", and the best friend of Oliver Queen. When Oliver returns to Starling City, Tommy believes the good times will roll again but is greatly mistaken as Oliver is a changed man. It is not yet known if this Merlyn is an able archer.

Comics: Mia Dearden is the second and current Speedy. She is a young girl adopted by Oliver Queen who rescued her from a life on the streets as a prostitute.

Comics: Moira Queen is married to millionaire industrialist Robert Queen and the mother of Oliver Queen, who would grow up to become Green Arrow. The family was on safari in Africa hunting when the parents were both killed by lions. Oliver still blames himself for their deaths because he was too hesitant to pick up a weapon and hurt the animals.
First appearance: Green Arrow Annual Vol 2 #7(1995)Live Adaptation: Moira Queen is the mother of Oliver and Thea Queen, and the wife of Walter Steele. When her son returns, she is seemingly happy that he is alive. After Oliver is abducted, she voices concern over his safety, and hires John Diggle to be his bodyguard. However, at the end of "Pilot", she is shown to be the one behind Oliver's abduction after his arrival.

Comics: Larry Lance is a private detective working in Gotham City, formerly an officer in the Gotham City Police Department. His wife was Dinah Drake, the Golden Age vigilante Black Canary. They had a daughter together named Dinah Laurel Lance who would succeed her mother in this position. Eventually Lance was killed by Aquarius during a Justice Society adventure.
Larry Lance was created by Carmine Infantino, first appearing in Flash Comics #92. (1948)Live Adaptation: Detective Quentin Lance is the father of Laurel and Sarah Lance. He is a police detective, and is partners with Detective Hilton. Lance is described as a “gruff, determined city detective” who believes true justice can only come from law and order.
