Predators are physically distinguished from humans by their greater height, arthropod-like mandibles and long, hair-like appendages on their heads. Their bodies are resilient to damage, capable of recovering from multiple gunshot wounds and radiation doses which would be fatal to humans. They have superhuman strength, having been portrayed as being easily capable of outmatching a conditioned adult human male. They are also skilled climbers, and will readily move through trees or across rooftops in pursuit of prey. Though capable of surviving exposed in Antarctic temperatures for an extended period of time, it is implied that Predators have a preference for hot equatorial climates. Their blood is dark phosphor green in color. Their vision operates mainly in the infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum; they can easily detect heat differentials in their surroundings but are unable to easily distinguish among objects of the same relative temperature. A Predator's hunting helmet increases its ability to see in a variety of spectra, ranging from the low infrared to the high ultraviolet, and also filters the ambient heat from the area, allowing them to see things with greater clarity and detail. They are capable of breathing Earth's atmosphere, though they show visible discomfort breathing air from heavily urbanized areas.Their dietary habits are mentioned in Predator 2, where it is revealed that the creature regularly visits a slaughter house every two days to feed on the stored meat there.

Predators are masters at a wide variety of melee and ranged weapons. They see in infrared and are much bigger and stronger than humans at about seven feet tall. Some known weapons include a shoulder mounted laser cannon known as a Plasma Caster, numerous wrist gauntlets, a retractable spearblade/staff known as a Combi-Staff or Combi-Stick, throwing disks that can cut through almost anything called Smartdiscs, and nets of thin mesh that can cut through the trapped foe. They have beyond human intelligence levels. Their suits have a chameleon power that allows them to turn nearly invisible, showing only a faint outline. These suit are the holding place for all there weapons as well as the bomb and survival gear kits. They are unsurpassed as hunters and evidence suggest they hunt many kinds of giant alien monsters and possibly hunted dinosaurs.
It is unknown how long the Predators have possessed their advanced technology, since they have been using it since well before the Ancient Egyptian era on Earth. However, it is safe to assume that the Predators did not always possess the technology that they have had for centuries as it would technically be impossible.
